Blog: Client Baby Shower – Matt & Jen

This baby shower is another client event that is close to home – my childhood home!  My sister and I threw this baby shower at my dad and stepmother’s house in honor of my brother and sister-in-law’s impending first baby.  I love co-ed baby showers, I’m not sure why, they just seem more relaxed.  I think I also like watching the guys struggle with the more typical baby shower games. Plus, it’s both parents having a baby, not just the mom!

We took our theme cues from their nursery design – safari with orange and gray. We used our gray and white zig zag table runners and lot of milk glass pieces as our base, then added color with a hanging paper decoration, ranunculus, and gerbera daisies in our vintage metal vases.

As a centerpiece, I made these little “hills” of green pom mums in our Indiana Raindrop Milk Glass compotes for some toy animals to frolic on.  (These were really easy to make, I plan on doing a tutorial post in the future).

The whole family, on both our mom and dad’s sides pitched in to provide the food. My sister made labels for the food using the same design we used on the invites.

(We had trouble keeping the giraffe out of the chips.)

For dessert, we had vanilla cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting (Matt loves peanut butter), as well as several favorite candies of Jen’s. We used our gray and white zig zag tablecloth, milk glass cake stands, and hobnail milk glass bowl on the dessert table.

We had a great turnout of friends and family who came to show their support for Matt and Jen! My sister and I were also really pleased with how the decorations came together.  There is always more you can do (like ironing the tablecloths, I really wish we had done that), but I am really happy with the results.

I’m interested in the silver plastic animals. Where did you find them and did you paint then cut a space for the plant? I’m part of a baby shower – safari theme and this would be great.

    Thanks.

    Hi Linda,

They are just plastic toy animals from Michaels that we cut with a dremel tool then spray painted silver! They are hollow so you just have to gut a hole.
