When you think burlap, usually the first word that comes to mind is ‘rustic,’ which is why we used burlap table runners in our own wedding. But when I was looking around the interwebs, I saw some interesting modern styles that incorporated burlap. The great thing about burlap, and why it can be used with so many looks, is the texture. (I’m a sucker for texture). Beware, though, true burlap sheds like crazy, and isn’t very comfortable on the skin. I was amazed at how many flower bouquets I saw that were wrapped in burlap! That can’t be comfortable to hold for any length of time. There are alternatives, like a loose-woven linen, that get the same texture but are a bit lighter and don’t shed.
